Adult Wellness

Let’s talk about early detection!

Once your pet is an adult, we would like to see them at least once per year to check for common health problems such as weight gain, dental disease, and allergies, and parasites endemic to our area such as heartworms, intestinal worms, fleas, and ticks.

As pets age, the likelihood of us detecting problems on an annual wellness exam increases.  Perhaps we detect a cancerous lump we are able to remove before it spreads. We may find a hormonal imbalance or abnormality with an organ like the liver or kidneys.  We may notice that they are becoming arthritic, losing weight, or have developed a heart murmur. All of these are changes that can happen as a part of the aging process, and many of them can be managed with diet or medications.

Without a thorough exam, comprehensive blood panel, and fecal samples, many of these problems can go unnoticed for months or years, leaving your dog uncomfortable, or worse.

In addition to keeping your pet up to date on vaccines and parasite prevention, our annual visits give us a chance to touch base about any changes that have taken place over the past year, so that problems can be caught early.
